Eleanor Lucille Smircich

February 24, 1931 ~ January 5, 2018 (age 86) 86 Years Old

Eleanor Lucille Smircich, 86, of Walsenburg Colo., born in Aguilar Colo., to Senon and Sara Martinez on Feb. 24, 1931; passed away on Jan. 5, 2018, with her loving family by her side. She leaves behind her devoted husband of 72 years, Adam John "Jack" Smircich. Eleanor is survived by her sister, Lee (Joe) Corral of Huntsville, Ark.; and her children, Ray (Kay) Smircich of Pueblo, John B. (Sherrie) Smircich of Lowell, Ark., Mearl Jane Smircich of Pueblo, Pearl (Matthew) Sandy of West Fork, Ark., and Rodney (Carrie) Smircich of Rogers, Ark., Saralynn (Wesley) Van Matre of Walsenburg, Colo. Eleanor was preceded in death by her son, Ronald R. Smircich. Eleanor had 16 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grand-children. Eleanor, with her husband, owned and operated the Central Tavern prior to Corine's Drive Inn Restaurant, known from all over for great Mexican food in Walsenburg from the late 1960s to present day. Eleanor had seven siblings: brothers, Bill, Julian, Dave, Chris, Ben; and sisters, Florence and Lee. Eleanor enjoyed spending time with family and friends, drinking coffee and catching up on the latest town news and family get-togethers, all while serving breakfast to the regulars or baking fresh tortillas at the restaurant. She never turned anyone in need away; she was an easy person to talk with and had a good listening ear. Most of the family and her close friends would also agree that Eleanor didn't tolerate any B.S. from anyone! She always treated you as if you were family even if you'd just met. She tended to favor you if you brought her a Mr. Goodbar and a Coke, especially. She was such an amazing woman. She was a very giving and nurturing mother and grandmother and friend. She'd make sure to catch up with her children even if they lived miles and miles away or if they were on the road making a haul. Rosary, 6 p.m. today; Funeral Mass, 11 a.m. Thursday, both services at St. Mary of Sorrows Catholic Church, Walsenburg, Father Stephen Olamolu as celebrant. A special thanks for the special care and treatment our mother was given during her stay in the ICU at St. Mary-Corwin Medical Center. You all were so caring and compassionate. Thank you.
