Charles Michael Massara, 105, passed away June 11, 2019. He was born May 12, 1914 in Omaha, Nebraska, the son of immigrant parents, Anton and Mary (Holzapfel) Massara both preceded him in death, along with his wife, Inez (Dickerson) Massara; son and daughter in law, Charles (Irene) Massara; daughter in law, Barbara Massara; grandson, Troy.
Always determined to succeed, Charles dropped out of school in the 7th grade but earned his GED 30 years later. He met his late wife, on a blind date in 1935 and together they celebrated 76 years of marriage in October 2011. Starting at the age of 13, Charles worked as a caddie, filling station attendant, cook, salesman, truck driver and at one point in his life, was a small business owner of a truck line serving Pueblo, Walsenburg and Trinidad.
He loved to hunt, fish and bowl. Deciding, he had a talent for art, he began painting landscapes around 1974. His paintings have won awards and are displayed in homes from California to Georgia.
Chuck is survived by his sons, John Massara, of Pueblo and James (Violet) Massara of Grayson, GA. In addition, there are 8 grandchildren, Tony, Karen, James Jr., Debra, Janine, Michele and Michael; 13 great grandchildren, Anna, Joe, Jon, Suzanne, Craig, Charlie, Pete, Abby. Rachel, Heather, Kara, Leah and Troy; 7 great-great grandchildren, Brandon Tatum, Barrett, Jon, Madison, Trevor and Peyton.
