Adrienne E. Montoya, 72, unexpectedly passed away August 26, 2023. She was born September 16, 1950 in Pueblo, CO; the only daughter of the late Robert I. Mestas and Alberta R. Griego. She is survived by the love of her life, Daniel, her son Matthew (Melissa) D. Montoya and daughter Danette M. Montoya. She leaves behind brother, Robert (Margaret) I. Mestas, Jr.
Adrienne’s greatest joys in life were her grandchildren: Sebastian, Alexis, Trevor, Chase and Morgan. Also mourning her loss are her Uncle Gilbert Griego and partner Chandler Brainard, her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Ron & Bertha Montoya, John & Anita Montoya, Rose and Ernest Pacheco, Annette Martinez, Belinda Smith and Ed Montoya, Aunts Charmaine Deabueno, Anna Griego, LuAnn Griego, and Candy Valadez, Uncle Ralph and Aunt Clara Mestas along with numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, many friends, especially her cherished BUNCO companions, and special friends Esther and Richard Gonzales.
Adrienne, affectionally known as “A,” loved to dance. Pre-covid, she enjoyed dancing (line dances, corridas, cumbias, country circle dances, swing and East coast two-step) at FOE Aerie #145 with Dan every Friday and especially loved holiday dinner dances. She looked forward to BUNCO every month with her dear friends as well as her Friday breakfast or lunch outing with friends. She loved to travel to experience cultures in other countries, making friends along the way and enjoyed numerous cruises and time share outings in the USA and abroad.
A’s calling was teaching, a passion through which she inspired, challenged and encouraged each student to strive for their best. She taught 1st through 5th grade regular classrooms, was a K-5 Special Education teacher and a K-3 Primary School Principal in her 30 year career, primarily in Fort Lupton and Brighton, Colorado. She and Dan, also a teacher-administrator, took their 18 month old daughter and 3 1/2 year old son on a year long experience in Mexico to improve their Spanish speaking skills to better meet the need of dominant Spanish speakers assigned to their classrooms. Her legacy lives on through the countless lives she touched, students, parents and fellow teachers.
In Appreciation: The family of Adrienne E. Montoya wishes to acknowledge the words of comfort, cards, prayers, food, flowers and other expressions of kindness shown before, during and after the loss of our loved one.
