Agnes Charlene Pena

Agnes Charlene Pena, 69 was called home the morning of March 8th, 2021. Family & friends who knew her would call her Charlene or Charla. She was born May 16, 1951, in Gilman, CO to the late Delfino & Berneda Sanchez of Gilman Colorado. 

Charlene married the late Steven Pena in 1974 in Minturn, CO, where they called home for many years. Together they raised their two girls Shannon & Marisa Pena and helped with their Grandkids Shania Barela, Shaleise & Austin Groves. Charlene worked as a teacher assistant, deli clerk and housekeeper, while residing in Eagle County. The couple later moved to Pueblo, Co, and lived there since 2008.

Pena kept a loving, warm home with that forever open-door feeling to anyone who came over. She was the caregiver to all. She had a protectant mother bear heart & soul. She was a second mother to many of her siblings being the second oldest of the bunch and her grand and great-grandkids.

Charlene enjoyed fishing with family, trips “over the mountain” as she would call it, to Central City & Blackhawk. She was an avid Bingo, scratch ticket, and lottery player. Her words of wisdom was “It just takes one time to hit the big one.” She had a creative side to her, where she was either building projects with her kids and grandkids or sewing as she was teaching her girls new techniques and tricks. She had a passion for growing peas and was so proud of her lilac and rose bushes in Minturn.

Charlene is preceded in death by her parents; Delfino & Berneda Sanchez. Husband; Steven Pena. In-laws; Manuel & Juanita Pena, Sister; Dylene Sanchez. Sisters-in-law; Nestorita Vargas, Beverly & Judy Pena, Brother-in-law; Richard Pena, Nephews; Robert & Georgie Pena, Derrick Sanchez. Great Nephew; Jerome Gallegos and Niece; Rosalie Gallegos.

Charlene is survived by her Daughters; Shannon & Marisa Pena. Siblings; David Sanchez, Connie (Art) Vasquez, Corrina (Leroy) Lovato, Louis Sanchez, Angela (Steve) Barry, Yolanda (Dennis) Sanchez, Clista Sanchez. Grandchildren; Shania Barela, Shaleise Groves, Austin Groves; Simonne Pena. Great Grandchildren; Cheyenne Teter, Analeah Groves, Levi Newbury, Leilani Barela-Vega, Rylie Newbury. The many Pena family in-laws and many nieces and nephews.

Cremation and Services have been entrusted by Angelus Chapel & Funeral Directors of Pueblo, Colo.

A private family-only service will be held on Friday, March 19th, 2021 with the burial of the ashes at a later date.
