Carmen L. Castruita, 67, passed away peacefully with her loving family at her bedside on August 5, 2018. She was born on July 16, 1951 in Guadalajara, Mexico to the union of Jesus and Bernadina (Lara) Flores both precede her in death. Carmen was very active in her community prior to her illness. A member of the Legion of Mary, a devout Catholic, she volunteered at any and all festivals. She was the Fiesta Queen in 1967 for Mount Carmel Catholic Church. She was a member CYO organization. She was very active in the Pueblo Chicano Democratic Caucus. She registered people to vote and was a strong advocate for United Farm Workers of America and Chicano Power. She was so proud to be personal friends with Cesar Chavez and Dolores Huerta, marching alongside with them for equality and civil rights. She was a huge Bronco and Beatles fan. Carmen never complained, was the kindest and always put herself last. She loved being with her children and grandchildren. The lesson she instilled will never be forgotten. Carmen is survived by her children Isabel, Dolores, Thomas, Susan (Neal Martinez) Castruita and Anjelica (Paul) Holway, 6 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, brothers Jess “Chuy” (Eleanor), Arthur, Danny (Lara Martinez), John (Roseann) Flores several other relatives and friends who loved and will miss Carmen. Funeral Mass 1pm Friday, St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church, Interment Roselawn Cemetery.
