Carolyn Joyce DePriest, 83, passed away on November 26, 2025. A long-time resident of Pueblo, she was born on June 6, 1942, in Houston, Texas, to proud parents Robert J. and Helen J. (Wilkins) Whittaker, both of whom preceded her in death, along with her brother Louis J. Whittaker and her children, Lisa Jeanice and Brian Randolph Hurd.
Carolyn worked for many years at the Pueblo County Department, where she earned a reputation for being savvy, intelligent, and diligent in her work as a medical transcriptionist. She was known for her dedication and professionalism.
A devoted animal lover, Carolyn found great companionship in her little dog, Snikers, who was always by her side. She also enjoyed spending time playing cards, especially Bridge, one of her favorite games. Carolyn cherished the moments she shared with her sister, Iris, whether they were shopping, reminiscing about old times, or catching up on what was happening in their lives.
Carolyn was a true people person, always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need. Her warm, welcoming personality and radiant smile could light up any room. Above all, Carolyn’s greatest joy came from her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved sharing her life stories, imparting wisdom, and offering her unconditional love to each of them.
She is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Lawrence D. DePriest; son Kevin DeWayne Hurd (JoAnn); sister Iris Faye Hawkins; four grandchildren, Adriana, Alyssa, Le Rhae, and Michael; six great-grandchildren; and several in-laws, nieces, and nephews. Special thanks go to her niece Michele Hayes, who was a constant help in caring for Carolyn and Lawrence. Carolyn is also survived by many family members and friends who will deeply miss her.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the following for their care and support: neighbor Jeff for his constant assistance; Villa Pueblo and CNA Valerie for their compassionate care; Allelon Hospice for their support; and Carlos Barrett for his hair care and visits.
A Homegoing Celebration will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, at Bethlehem Baptist Church, 1044 Spruce St., Pueblo, CO.
