Christobal Marquez Obituary

Christobal “Chris” Marquez, 89, passed away August 24th 2021. Chris was born in Trinidad, CO on July 6th, 1932 to Pablo and Estefanita (Ortega) Marquez. Both Pablo and Estefanita preceded him in death along with his wife, Beatrice Marquez; sisters Angela Fountain and Ruby Marquez; and Inlaws Ben Armenta, Eloise Brood, and Lillian Marquez.

Chris was a resident of Avondale for 67 years and loved his community. It was in Avondale at a dance where he met the love of his life, Beatrice. From there the couple went on to share 62 years of marriage. Chris retired from the Pueblo Army Depot’s Paint department after giving 25 years of service and before that served in the United States Army for four years. He spent much of his time fishing. He especially enjoyed fishing with his wife before her passing. They would often make playful side bets to challenge each other’s skills. Although Beatrice usually won, Chris enjoyed himself, nonetheless. Chris also enjoyed rock hunting. He would hunt rocks that the average person would pass by and transform them into lapidary treasures. He was especially proud of his green thumb that brought him bountiful harvests of tomatoes, zucchini, and cucumbers. Chris will be remembered for his great sense of humor and wit. He always had a funny joke to make people laugh. Out of all the things he loved, it was his family that he loved the most. His Family was his world.

Survived by his children Pam Cordova and Samuel (Lori) Marquez; siblings, Mary Montoya, Josie Garcia, Helen Martinez, Louise Valdez, William (Sarah) Marquez, Frank Marquez, John (Hortencia) Marquez and Sylvia Higuero; Four Gandchildren Jesse (Amanda) Cordova, Ryan (Killian) Cordova, Jason Marquez, Eric Marquez; 2 great-grandchildren, Alex and Diego Cordova; In-laws, Ray (Rosie) Armenta, Anne Santillanez, Dora Martinez, Gloria Cordova, and Barbara Madison as well as numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends who will miss him dearly.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
