Clara Rivas, 87, of Pueblo, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away on 31 March 2025 surrounded by her family at her home after a long and fulfilling life.
Clara was born in September 1937 in Pueblo to parents Luis and Marina Lucero. She married the love of her life John “JR” Rivas in September 1954.
She retired from Pueblo Public Schools in 1995, and she and JR set out on a life of travel, golf, and spending time with their 24 Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren. She was active in the Elmwood Ladies 9 Tees Golf League and remained active as the Handicap Chair after she was unable to golf.
Clara was predeceased by her parents Luis and Marina Lucero, her in-laws Lorenzo and Marie Rivas, her husband John Rivas, her brothers Luther, Harkin, Edward, Luis, Loren, Tony, Alfred, Dickie, sister Barbara, Granddaughter Jacque, and Great Grandson Avery.
She is survived by her children: Louise, John (Patricia), Ronald (Nancy), Gary (Karen), and Gerald (Cindy), sister Frances Martinez, sisters-in-law: Hilda Gallegos and Lola Lucero, her Grandchildren: Christopher, Rachel, Steven, Lorenzo, John, Jeffrey, Alex, Maria, Jesse, Margaret, Lucas, and Benjamin, 10 Great-Grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Rosary 5 p.m. Wed. April 2, 2025. Funeral Mass 10a.m. Thurs. April 3, 2025. Both at Holy Family Parish.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her memory to the Rivas Scholarship Fund, 165G Kingsley Ave. Pueblo, CO 81005.
