Dolores Rita Valverde

Dolores Rita Valverde, 84, passed away peacefully at her home in Pueblo, Colorado on April 5, 2024. Dolores was born July 21, 1939 in Raton, New Mexico. She grew up in Las Vegas, NM and La Junta, CO. She is preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Romero; father, Jose Valverde; mother, Julia Medina; stepfather, Juan Medina; brothers, Robert Valverde and Lawrence Valverde; sister, Irene Romero; and great grandson, Angelo Montour.

Dolores attended the Colorado School for the Deaf and Blind in 1949-1950 and learned American Sign Language and speech reading. She moved to Pueblo in 1959. Dolores enjoyed watching all the shopping networks and was an avid embroider. She blessed so many relatives and friends with her embroidered pillowcases, dish towels, and tablecloths. Dolores was a devout Catholic and long-time member of St. Leander’s Parish; she was strong in her faith. She inspired her children to work hard and thrive in their lives. Dolores was a survivor as she was able to fight and overcome her battle with breast cancer. She worked for Herman’s Janitorial for many years and retired from Colorado Bluesky Enterprises Inc. with 24 years of service. She was very close to her Quintana cousins and also her neighbor Mena and Sam for the last 45 years.

Dolores is survived by her children, Tina Madrid, Toby (Shena) Madrid, Joseph (Janie) Madrid, Basil (Brenda) Madrid, Janet and Andy Baca and Sylvia Madrid; her sisters, Josie Brasher and Joan Romero; 18 grandchildren; 58 great grandchildren and 14 great great grandchildren; numerous nephews, nieces, and friends. She will be deeply missed by all who loved her, and by all who were blessed to cross her path.
