Dr. Joseph E. Peters (Joe), 79, passed away on October 1st, 2024 after a short illness in Pueblo, CO.
Joe was born on March 4th, 1945 in Spokane, Washington to Robert and Alice (McGarry) Peters. Joe was a very educated man, earning a PhD in psychology after attending Eastern Washington University and Gonzaga University. Prior to becoming a clinical psychologist, he also studied in the seminary and served active duty in the U.S. Army. He helped many people throughout his profession as a clinical psychologist, even using his degree as a reservist in the U.S. Army for many years and eventually retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. His soothing voice and caring spirit brought comfort and hope to his patients and his family alike. Joe and Maribeth traveled the world and enjoyed their lives to the fullest. Joe was an avid and talented golfer who achieved 6 hole in ones! He cherished his time with all of his golf buddies and spending time with Maribeth, cheering on the Denver Broncos, CSUP Thunderwolves, Gonzaga Bulldogs, and Central Wildcats which included his three grandsons. We will miss our annual trip to Electricritters, family gatherings, but most importantly his witty sense of humor, and his love.
Joe is survived by his wife Maribeth Geonetta-Peters, their daughters Johanna (Willis) Dean, Diana (Jim) Neely, Penny (Jeremy) Hatton, Lori (Mark) Miller, and Kelli Sheehan, along with fourteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews. As well as his siblings; Robert Peters, John (Debbie) Peters, Phillip Peters, and Kathy (Bob) Roloff; in-laws, Barbara Geonetta, Tony "TG" (Patty) Geonetta, Patrick (Anastasia) Geonetta, and Anthony (Amy) Geonetta.
He is preceded in death by his parents Robert and Alice Peters; mother-in-law Martha Geonetta; and father-in-law Tony Geonetta.
Joe will be deeply missed by his beloved family and friends and will live on in the memory of his children, grandchildren, and the stories to be told to his great-grandchildren. We love you Papa Joe!
A huge thank you to Abode Hospice, Sangre de Cristo Hospice, and Joni Fair Hospice House for taking great care of Joe in his final days.
Funeral Mass will be held 10 am, Fri., October 25th, 2024 at St. Therese Catholic Church.
