Jim was a seeker of truth and a lover of beauty. He adopted stray animals, especially cats. He devoted himself wholeheartedly to people and to causes he held close to his heart. He treasured memories of growing up on the St. Charles Mesa with his parents and two sisters, going to PleasantView, then County High, and riding his dad’s horse Old Dick. At age 18 he joined the Navy and when Colorado winters were particularly cold, wistfully recalled the warmth of the South Pacific. He was stationed in Hawaii, Japan and the Philippines. He rose to the rank of Chief many of his Navy years were spent as an air traffic controller aboard carriers in the Gulf of Tonkin.
Jim was an artist who appreciated life and who approached tasks as meticulously as he did his paintings. The company that designed our greenhouse when we remodeled our third generation floral business, the Fabian Floral, was amused that he calculated measurements down to an eighth of an inch. After he rewired our house, the inspector was astonished at his workmanship. Jim also devoted many years to the care of B’nai Jacob Cemetery and worked at installing a more efficient watering system.
Our friends Tedy and Dave who live in Denver offered this tribute to Jim:
“The warmth that radiates from you illuminates our hearts and souls. We wish the whole world could experience your light, our friendship and your love. It is a wonderful miracle when life brings together forever friends.”
May Jim’s memory be a blessing that continues to warm your hearts.
