Lee Cornetta Obituary

Lee S. Cornetta passed away on December 25, 2023 at Brookdale Senior Living, in Pueblo, Colorado. Lee was born on August 13, 1945, in Plainfield, New Jersey. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Lillian Cornetta (Carone). He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Carol Cornetta (Glach), his sister Barbara Cornetta, and his children, Stephen L. Cornetta (Kristin Shapiro) and Anne Marie Hahn (Jared). Lee also leaves behind numerous beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and brothers and sisters in-law.

Lee moved to Colorado Springs with his family in 1950 and fully became a Coloradoan (aside from embracing a New Jersey accent for a certain few words, like orange or “philadelthia”). He graduated from Wasson High School in 1963. He then attended Southern Colorado State Colorado and then received a Masters Degree from the University of Northern Colorado.

In 1968, Lee was introduced to Carol Glach via mutual lifelong friends. They would be married on June 13, 1970, and remained so until his passing.

Lee was a lifelong educator who spent the majority of his career with the Colorado Mental Health Institute at Pueblo where he endeavored to better lives.

He enthusiastically rooted for many Colorado sports teams and could often be found cheering (in half disgust) for the Colorado Rockies each springtime. The summers were spent traveling with his family across the US, in often fantastic road trips that spanned many states. Lee was an avid history buff, eagerly learning and teaching about the past. Guests could often be greeted with a warm smile and big “HELLO” from Lee and quite often, they were enthusiastically offered an “Arnold Palmer” or egg nog beverage at Christmas time.  Lee’s gentle, kind, humble nature and great sense of humor always came through.

In life, Lee was a devoted husband and father and beamed with pride (especially talking about his beloved son). He was a family man, always supportive and quick to offer help, advice or an open ear. He never shied away from helping his children with whatever the task at hand might be: moving to a new state, talking through a job offer or discussing the future.

A special thank you to Sangre de Cristo Hospice and Brookdale El Camino for their compassionate care.
