Lloyd James Ortivez, 78, of Walsenburg, Colorado passed away May 15, 2025. He was born June 15, 1946 to parents, Milton and Amelia Ortivez. Both precede him in death along with his sister, Joann Chavez.
Lloyd married Dorothy Ortiz in 1968. Shortly after he was drafted into the Vietnam War. After his time in the Army he came home to work numerous jobs. He was a custodian for the middle school, then worked as a lineman, a coal miner, construction, and a jailer and last, went back to the coal mines. One night coming home he got into a car accident, which left him unable to work. He spent his time tinkering with cars, playing with his grandchildren, and helping his daughter and son-in-laws with their vehicles. Lloyd enjoyed playing solitare, eating peanuts, fishing, livestock and going to the cow auctions. He loved building model cars and had quite a collection. Most of all he loved following and supporting his grandchildren in all their endeavours. Lloyd was a great provider and enjoyed sharing his stories, life lessons and love with his family who he always put first.
Lloyd is survived by the mother of his children and best friend, Dorothy Ortivez, his 3 daughters, Melissa Ortivez, Jennifer (Justin) Cordova, and Erica (Bill) Trujillo; his granddaughters, Olivia (R Jay) Jackson and Hannah (Hunter) Hastings; his great granddaughter, Oakley Jackson and one on the way; his siblings, Bernice Jaramillo, William Ortivez, Ron (Marie) Ortivez and Leonard Ortivez; numerous nephews, nieces, family and friends who love and will miss Lloyd dearly.
Rosary, 10 am and Funeral Mass, 10:30 am, Thurs., May 22, 2025 both at St. Mary Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Walsenburg. Interment, St. Mary North Cemetery.
