Lolita Alvarado

Lolita Alvarado, 92, passed peacefully on February 23, 2026, called by God on that day to join her husband John.  Lolita was born on October 7, 1933 in Germany to parents Marie and Willie Kessler.   She was the oldest of seven children, survived by Gert Kessler (Helga), Horst Kessler (Birgit), and Margita Kessler.  Her siblings that died before her: Hans Werner Kessler, Edith Trautman (Walter), and Rosie Kessler.

Surviving as a family, they endured World War II.  Lolita use to recall how she would be gathering potatoes from the fields for their dinner.  She remembered how their apartment building was being strafed by Allied fighter planes.  After the war, the area where she grew up fell under Russian rule.  Her sister Edith fled to West Germany before the border was closed to citizens.  Lolita attempted to flee later, was captured and jailed.  After her release, she successfully escaped East Germany by swimming across a guarded river to freedom in the west. 

Later in West Germany, she met John, who was serving in US Army’s European occupational forces.  They were married and he brought her to Pueblo, CO, where they lived their life together.   Lolita, while doing some part-time work as a book binder, was primarily focused on raising her children and providing a loving home for all.  Her passions in life was her family and home life.  She was one of the luckiest winners playing the slot machines at Cripple Creek.  She loved to go camping, an appreciation that was passed on to her children.  She was a member of the Pueblo German Club where she enjoyed dressing up in costumes for the annual fasching (also known as Karneval or Fastnacht). She and John loved to dance at the October Festivals and have late night breakfast with their friends after the dance ended.  Lolita loved to host large parties at her home on the east side of Pueblo for extended family and friends. Celebrations of all sorts with family and friends was dear to Lolita. She loved to be around people, to celebrate, talk, laugh, and be merry.

She is survived by her three children Tina Alvarado (Scott), Mike Alvarado (Diana), and Gary Alvarado (Tina) and five grandchildren, Daniel Alvarado, Jacob Alvarado, Christopher Alvarado, Rebecca Martin, and David Alvarado and seven great grandchildren, Benjamin Ferreira, Ava Alvarado, Declan Alvarado, Ethan Alvarado, Logan Parker, Theia Martin, and Eira Martin.  Lolita attended Mass primarily at Christ the King Parish, but also at St Leanders.  In lieu of flowers, people may make a donation to St Joseph’s Catholic Church in Pueblo, CO in respect for knowing and loving Lolita Alvarado.
