Lorenzo J. Montoya, passed away Aug. 11, 2024. He was born February 16, 1946 in Alamosa, CO. to parents, Santiago and Benita (Garcia) Montoya. Both precede him in death along with his sister, Francis Montoya; brothers, Concepcion “Tomas”, Danny, Nick, Florentino and Dave Montoya.
Lorenzo was a graduate of Central High School where he was a state champion, 112 weight, in wrestling and went on to receive his bachelor’s degree. He proudly served 2 tours with the U.S. Navy in Vietnam. Lorenzo was an avid pool player here in Pueblo for many years where he ran several pool leagues. He loved gambling and going to Cripple Creek. He enjoyed fishing, camping and the great outdoors was very precious to him. But his biggest joy was giving back to his Pueblo community, especially the Bessemer neighborhood, where he owned the Corner Cigar Pool Hall with his brother Stick. They loved keeping the children off the streets, he was a father figure to many of the kids, always supporting and encouraging them. Lorenzo loved to share his life lessons, stories, words of wisdom and love with his family, friends and especially his grandchildren. Lorenzo always was there to lend a helping hand to anyone in need, always wanting to pay it forward. He will be truly remembered for his great sense of humor and loving personality.
Lorenzo is survived by his wife, Debbie (Lockley) Montoya; daughters, Nicole (Adam Crespin) Montoya and Erica (Eric) Jimenez; grandchildren, Evangelina & Sophia Jimenez, and Maya & Cesario Montoya; siblings, Jean (Rick) Pounds, Ernestine Schaibley, Maria (Rick) Craig, and Mike “Stick” (Penny) Montoya; in-law, Helen Mullinax.
