Marcello Soto Obituary

Marcello Soto, 96, passed away Jan. 9, 2024. He was born Jan. 31, 1927 in Colorado City, Texas to Cayetano and Mariana (Alvarez) Soto who precede him in death along with first wife and mother of his children, Helen “Tacha” Soto; grand-daughter, Sonja Soto; siblings, Antonio Soto, Basilio Soto, Bennie Soto, Mercy Autobee, Vicky Villegas, Ramona Sanchez, and Jennie Diaz; in-laws, Melvin and Anita Autobee and Joe and Patsy Espinoza.

Marcello was a proud resident of Avondale, CO for 85 years. He was a member of: the Autobee Club, who recognized him as being one of the oldest and original members; the Romeo Breakfast Club, and past historian of the Avondale Boone Pueblo County Veterans Foundation. Marcello retired form the Pueblo Chemical Depot in June of 1986 with 36 years of service.

A faithful man, he was a parishioner of Sacred Heart of Avondale where he was a member of the Men’s Holy Name Society and supported the parish activities. He prayed the rosary daily after drinking coffee and eating his favorite ginger snaps and sugar cookies with his wife Sadie for 23 years. He chaired the beer booth for many many years, for the Jamaica's.

Baseball and fastpitch were in his blood. He tried out for the Pueblo Dodgers Baseball team. He played fastpitch with the Ramirez Tigers, and baseball with the Avondale Indians. He coached many men’s softball and baseball teams, as well as women softball teams. His children had the honor of playing co-ed softball with him. Marcello was the recipient of the “Bengay” award for the annual Old Timers men’s fastpitch softball game. Marcello was also a dedicated Colorado Rockies and Denver Bronco Fan.

Marcello enjoyed playing pool with his buddies and was proud to win a few tournaments. In his younger years, he and his wife Tacha, loved to dance the “Jive”. He enjoyed all types of music, he always had music playing in his home.

Marcello proudly enjoyed watching and supporting his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren in their sporting and school activities. He was always their biggest fan. He was the patriarch of five generations. He was affectionately given the nick-name “King of the Block” by Vincey.  He shared his faith, love, wisdom and stories with each of them. One of his strongest traits, was he told the best stories. His greatest joy was his family; and it was evident in the fact that you never seen him without his wife Sadie and family around him. His love was magnetic and he had so much of it to share.

 Marcello leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Sadie Soto; his children, Maxine (Robert) Gomez, Herbert (Alice) Soto, Vic (Susan) Soto, Laura (Marco) Perez, Marlene (Don) Atencio, Lynn (Tommy) Soto-Sanchez; 16 grandchildren, 24 great- grandchildren, 4 great- great- grandchildren; 5 step-children, 17 step-grandchildren, 34 step great-grandchildren; numerous god-children, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends who will miss him dearly.

Rosary, 6 pm, Fri., Jan. 19, 2024 and Mass of Christian Burial, 10 am, Sat., Jan. 20, 2024 both at Sacred Heart Church, Avondale. Interment, St. Vrain Cemetery
