Mary A. Tafoya, 77, passed away December 1, 2025. She was born July 2, 1948, in Las Vegas, New Mexico to parents, Arcenio and Amalia (Gonzales) Padilla. They both precede her in death along with her brothers, Louis Padilla and Lawrence Padilla; brother-in-law, Sal Garcia.
Mary was a proud Central High School graduate. In her younger years she was an amazing softball player, dart player and was a semi-professional bowler, teaching her children the art of the sport. She was a huge Bronco fan and an admirer of the Williams sisters who played tennis. She was an excellent cook and made the best tamales that were prize winning. Mary enjoyed going to church, bible studies, and congregating with her brothers and sisters at the church, God’s Divine Plan of Salvation. In her spare time, she enjoyed coloring it eased her mind. She loved sharing her life lessons, stories and her love with her family and friends. Mary had a heart of gold, always helping anyone in need. She loved her Salt Creek community where she grew up, sharing stories of her childhood with her sister and brothers. She was an animated storyteller, making her stories come to life like you were there. Mary was a kind soul who touched so many lives with her generosity and belief in people no matter what walk of life they came from. She always rooted for the underdog. Mary will be missed by all who knew her.
Mary is survived by her significant other, Cano; children, Albert Tafoya, Daneen Tafoya and Michael Tafoya; grandchildren, Devin (Ashley) Hernandez, Joseph (Michelle) Tafoya, Izak (Jacelle) Tafoya, and Lilia Gonzales; 3 great grandchildren, Uriah Hernandez, Aziyah Hernandez, and Paloma (Varner) Gonzales; four legged companions, Bandit and Oso; great grand dog, Luna; siblings, Patricia Garcia, Gerald (Rhonda), Frank (Colleen), and Archie (Norma) Padilla; sister-in-law, Margaret Padilla; special friend, Carmen; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends.
