Melissa Madrid Obituary

Melissa Marie Sarah Madrid, a lifelong Pueblonian, passed into Eternal Life on September 4, 2025, at the age of 43. Born on August 29, 1982, Melissa known lovingly as “Missy “was a devoted mother, daughter, and sister whose love and laughter touched everyone she met.
She is preceded in death by her grandparents: Lee & Anna Lucero; Neil Walkup & Geneva Peña; and Henry & Stella Madrid. Also preceded by her uncles Sonny Madrid, Robert Peña, Gerald Peña, James Kraft (her favorite), and cousins Jaime “Archie” Archuleta and baby Shawn.

Melissa is survived by her Mama, Cathy Walkup; her “2nd Mama,” Lena Madrid; her Daddy, Rick Madrid; and “2nd Daddy,” David Walkup. She leaves behind her beloved children: Carlos Mario (Caudy Nicolas) Gonzales Jr., Aaliyah Marie, Genevieve Marie, and Audrina Marie Gonzales. Also survived by the father of her children, Carlos Gonzales Sr., whom she always loved.

She is lovingly remembered by her siblings: Raquel Madrid, Jonathan (Esperanza Quintana) Madrid, Lynnea (James) Hernandez, Geneva (Russel Vigil) Walkup, Estellena (Ty Casey) Madrid, Samantha Madrid, and Desiree Sumida; and her “Insignificant Other,” Jacob Vasquez.
Melissa also leaves behind uncles Leandro and Mike (Lourdes) Lucero; 100-year-old great-aunt Corinne Arguello; aunts Elaine Madrid, Liz Madrid, Patsy (James) Archuleta, Teresa Kraft, Josephine Lucero, and Julie Maestas; nephews Gabriel, Tobias, RJ, and Luca; nieces Delilah, Serenity, and Izabella; and numerous cousins she dearly loved.

Missy lived for her children and fought bravely through 36 days of suffering to stay with them. She loved singing, dancing, Denver Broncos, and Bruno Mars. She believed in our Lord and our God, a devout Catholic, prayed the Rosary, and spread love and faith everywhere she went. She helped raise many nieces, nephews, and cousins and had a special place in her heart for all children.

She asked our Lord to let her live so she could be his witness of what alcohol and drugs can do to you. At the end of her life journey, she then asked that her suffering not be in vain. A message she hopes that we continue to spread in her name. She passed into the Kingdom of God and died with a smile.

God Bless All of You.
