Nora Lee Cassares, affectionately known as “Chook”, 78, passed away April 13, 2025. She was born on March 28, 1947 in Trinidad, CO. to parents, Lee E. and Nora (Maldonado) Madrid. They both precede her in death along with her siblings, Richard Madrid, Oliver Madrid, Dennis Lynn "Nino" Madrid, Lil Valdez and Elaine (Ted) Leyba; in-laws, Domenick and Mary Cassares.
Nora graduated from Centennial High School, Class of 1965. She was a member of CCW and The Southern Colorado Social Club. She was an excellent cook, great artist and crafter. Nora enjoyed going fishing, camping and going on trips to Cripple Creek and New Mexico. She was an excellent singer, loved shopping and had a shoe fetish. Most of all she loved spending quality time with her husband, son and family. She was the best wife and mother anyone could ask for.
Nora is survived by her husband of 54 years, Joseph Cassares; son, Christopher Cassares; siblings, Jean (Fred) Fearheiley, Harriet (James) Gomez, Barbara Olguin, Melva Jean (Gravial) Vialpando, Julian (Sophie Chavez) Madrid, Anthony (Lynn) Madrid, Harold Madrid, Donald (Justine) Madrid, and Anna Lee Gonzales; in-laws, Trish Madrid, Mary Madrid and Joanne Madrid.
Rosary, 9:30 am and Funeral Mass, 10 am, Fri., April 25, 2025 both at St. Joseph Catholic Church.
