Pedro José Silas Montoya, 93, passed away June 16, 2025. He was born January 15, 1932 in Sanford, Colorado to parents, Pedro and Clotilde (Medina) Montoya. Both precede him in death along with his brothers and sisters, Amos Montoya, Sophía Martinez, Fabiola Ortiz, and Charles Montoya.
He went on to work as a steelworker at CF&I for 31 years and was an active member of the Steelworkers Union. He was the Director of the Guadalupe Dancers. He loved God, raised his family in church, and also served at festivals at St Leander Church. Pedro enjoyed running many long distance races and always placed well in his category. He loved watching all the different sports. Pedro would share great stories about growing up on the ranch and riding horses, Even as he struggled with his health, Pedro would cheer up the room with his jokes. Pedro loved his family and instilled the value of a good education. He gained the nickname, “2 lunch Pete” at at the steel mill as he doubled over five days a week to put all his children through college.
Pedro is survived by his loving wife, Evila Jirón Montoya; his daughters, Frances (John) Gutiérrez, Glenda Martínez, Patsy (Don) García and Nadine Louella Montoya; his son, Randal (Bonnie) Montoya; 6 grandchildren, Erik (Kortney) Madrill Montoya, Daniel (Brooke) Martínez, David (Dominique) Martínez, Anthony Tornowski, Felicia Montoya and Isabella Montoya; 3 great grandchildren, Rowan, Radnor and Peyton; and his brother, Sam Montoya.
Rosary, 9:30 am, and Funeral Mass, 10 am, Thurs., June 26, 2025, both at St. Leander Church, 1402 E. 7th St., Pueblo, CO.
