Richard Alcon, 89, passed away Oct. 7, 2024. He was born on March 12, 1935 in Las Vegas, New Mexico to George and Mary Alcon. Richard is preceded in death by his parents along with his brothers, Elisio Morin, George Alcon, Ernie Alcon, Fernando Alcon and David Alcon. He is also preceded in death by sisters Angelina Alcon, Alice Garduno, Emma Ulibarri and Laura Aragon.
He married his wife Flora Alcon (Abeyta) 65 years ago on November 1, 1958. They had three daughters: Sandra Gomez of Rocky Ford, Gloria Long (Michael Long) of Colorado Springs and Irene Alcon of Pueblo. He had four grandchildren: Valerie Flores of Rocky Ford, Amanda Flores (Alfredo Esquivel) of Pueblo, Jennifer Dally (Justin Ambrocio) of Colorado Springs and Matthew Long (Zoey Long) of Colorado Springs. He had four great grandchildren: Summer Ortiz, Drake Ortiz, Carlos Flores and Makenzie Dally.
Richard was a member of the American Legion Post #8 and with the Knights of Columbus. Richard served in the Army where he later transferred to the National Guard where he retired from after serving in Operation Desert Storm. After retiring from the Pueblo Army Depot he went to work for the Swink school district. He loved watching the Denver Broncos, fishing and playing horseshoes. One wouldn’t dare challenge him to a game of horseshoes, that’s for sure.
During the Christmas season he loved to decorate the family home with hundreds and hundreds of Christmas Elves! Richard loved family reunions and attending Spanish dances. You could count on him to bring his famous pico de gallo to all family events. If anyone ever drove by the family home, they would always see him sitting in the garage with the garage door open. The 1500 block of Pine Avenue will never be the same!
He leaves behind his loving wife, Flora; his 3 daughters; 4 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and two cats. He has one surviving brother, Marcello Alcon and two surviving sisters, Mary Young and Pita Carrillo.
