Our dad, Richard A. Holgerson, born to Marian and Robert Holgerson in Manhattan, Kansas, on October 3, 1951, went to be with our Lord on Thursday, May 1, 2025.
He was a man of great courage and honor. In 1968, he bravely joined the United States Marine Corps. He served in the Vietnam War and demonstrated exceptional bravery and dedication, receiving the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and Rifle Expert Badge.
On July 4, 1975, he married Susan Foster, and they soon moved to Rye in 1976. Their family grew over the years, and he was a loving father to his two girls, Annie Rahl and Lori Hale, and his pride and joy, “baby girl” Jordan Holgerson-Rahl. His family expanded further with the addition of his sons Brian Rahl and Chris Hale, three grandchildren, Kreed Rahl, Kaylee (Rahl) Byerly, Lane Byerly, and two great-grandchildren, Weston Byerly and Cooper Byerly.
Dad was grounded in the Word of God. He instilled his God-loving spirit into his daughters and Jordan. He was selflessly dedicated to his family. He was known for his hardworking etiquette, humble spirit, and private lifestyle. He enjoyed sharing endless trucking and hunting stories, expressing the fun and joyful memories he experienced with family and friends. He was a self-taught gunsmith sharing his skills with many who knew him. His smile was infectious and would light up a room.
As our hearts are heavy, we all can have peace in knowing he was welcomed in the arms of Jesus and reunited with our mom, Grandmother, his brothers Larry, Jim, Bob, and Bill, and his sisters Linda and Mary Ann.
To honor our dad’s humble spirit, we request that remembrances be made through charitable donations to Brookside Cemetery in Rye, Colorado, in Richard’s name. Charitable donations may also be made to the Bank of San Juans.
The funeral service will be held at River of Life Church on Saturday, May 10, at 10:00. Interment, Brookside Cemetery. Followed by a reception at the Rye Methodist auxiliary building.
