Ronald Schwab Obituary

Ronald Lee Schwab, a lifelong resident of Pueblo, passed away on March 26, 2026. Born on August 31, 1946, to Michael and Florence Schwab.

Ron’s life was defined by hard work, athletic grace, and a quiet, profound devotion to his family. Growing up in the heart of the Bessemer neighborhood, Ron’s youth was rooted in the vibrant spirit of old-school Pueblo. Alongside his big brother, Mike, and a tight-knit group of neighborhood friends, he spent his days playing pinball, bowling, and competing in every sport the neighborhood kids could organize. These early years forged a competitive spirit and a humble nature that would stay with him for a lifetime.

Ron was a standout athlete at South High School, graduating in 1964. While he excelled in football and baseball, it was on the basketball court where he truly made his mark as a star player. After graduating from Southern Colorado State College in 1968, Ron was drafted and served in the United States Air Force as a Medical Service Specialist until 1975. Stationed in Washington, D.C., he brought the same focus and care to his military service that he applied to every other area of his life.

Upon returning home to Pueblo, Ron dedicated 35 years to the Pueblo Steel Mill, working with quiet reliability until his retirement in 2010. Retirement allowed Ron to trade The Mill for the fairways, where he became a daily fixture on the golf course. An avid golfer, he found great peace and camaraderie on the greens. He also cherished the time spent traveling with his beloved companion, Carol Ghini. Together, they found joy in trips to the beach and the excitement of visiting casinos, creating many happy memories. Though he was often reserved, those who knew him best felt the depth of his huge, giving heart. He was a man of action rather than words who cared deeply for his family, offering a giving and selfless presence in their lives. He was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Florence Schwab, and his companion, Carol Ghini.

He is survived by his brother, Mike (Patti) Schwab; his son, Ron (Jaime) Schwab; and his three grandchildren, Christian, Jailee, and Easton Schwab, who were a great source of pride. He is also survived by his nieces, Nikki Schwab (Rich Gentile) and Kylee Schwab (Cherylynn Dick); his great-nephew, Henry; and his great-niece, Josephine.

Ron’s legacy will be remembered through his lifelong love of the game, his decades of dedicated work, and the family who will forever carry his quiet strength in their hearts.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Ron’s memory to Sangre de Cristo Hospice, whose compassion and care provided immense comfort during his final journey.
