Ruth Maryann Tafoya

Ruth Maryann Tafoya, 75, passed away on May 8, 2026.  Born August 2, 1950 in Rocky Ford, Colorado to Pete Martinez and Annie Espinoza.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Pete & Annie Martinez, grandson Emilio Lopez.

She is survived by loving husband of 55 years, Jose D. Tafoya; sons, Joseph (Char) Tafoya, Tony (Bridget) Tafoya; siblings, Irene (Joe) Martinez, Gloria (Gabe) Mares, Marty Martinez, Gabriel (Tom) Martinez; god-daughters Christine Martinez and Claudia Tafoya; grandchildren Preston Tafoya, Esteven (Kara) Lopez, Alyssa Jaramillo and Austine Tafoya.

Ruth loved to collect dolls, a collection out of this world.  She was an excellent seamstress, working many years at Jim’s Formal Wear.  She loved flowers, even if she didn’t have a green thumb.  Ruth always put others before herself.  One of her favorite places to visit was Baskin Robbins to get her vanilla ice cream.  She enjoyed watching her grandchildren play sports.  Ruth loved people, she could strike up a conversation with anyone.  Should would always find something in common to talk about.  She loved the phone, talking to her sisters daily. Most of all she loved her family.  Sharing her life stories and lessons.  Words of wisdom and her love with each of them.  Ruth was the matriarch of her family.  She loved her nieces and nephews, caring for each of them and when it was her time, they took good care of her.

She will be forever loved and missed.
