Sherry Ann Elizabeth Montoya, affectionately known as “Honey Grams” graced this world with her presence when she was born to the late Harry and Rosemarie Bevsek on June 24, 1955, in Walsenburg Colorado. Sherry was welcomed home by her Savior, Friday, December 20, 2024.
Sherry touched the lives of so many through the 45 years she dedicated as an elementary school teacher. She taught in Gardner, Aguilar and Walsenburg Colorado. Sherry was a reading intervention specialist and loved teaching children to read. She was awarded with the Who’s Who Amongst American Teachers awards. Sherry was a talented artist who enjoyed painted scenery and still life paintings. Sherry had a very deep faith in Christ. She shared this faith teaching Catechism for St. Mary Catholic Church for many years. She loved Mickey Mouse and her favorite place on earth was Disneyland. Her true passion was spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Sherry is survived by her husband and love of her life, Donald Montoya; children, Heather Thoreson, Summer Faris and Whitney (Sonny) Salazar; grandchildren, Shelby Faris (Andres Ruiz), David Montoya, Chance Montoya (Kaela Garcia), Braxton Thoreson, Zachary Thoreson, Gunner Salazar, Aubriella Thoreson and Destiny Salazar; great grandchildren, Ozaris Ruiz and Kairo Perez; siblings, Chuck (Carol) Bevsek, Jay (Debbie) Bevsek, Marilyn Bevsek, Randy Bevsek (Sylvia Vigil); sister-in-law, Shirley Montoya; aunt, Carol Glorioso; 9 nephews and 3 nieces; special friends, Joanie Cassell, Janine Below, Brenda Stupka and Jeanne Wilkins; many friends and colleagues.
Sherry is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Bonnie Bevsek; son-in-law, Bert Faris; mother and father-in-law, Delfiino and Mary Montoya; brothers-in-law, Henry and Harvey Montoya; uncle, Steve Glorioso.
Sherry’s smile, bubbly personality, quick wit, laughter and love for everyone will be deeply missed.
